On October 29th hundreds of community members from neighborhoods throughout the City of Buffalo participated at "Planning Day in Buffalo" at the Erie Community College Downtown Campus. The event, led by Mayor Byron W. Brown, unveiled the initial version of Buffalo’s Future Land Use Plan: 2012/32, which will help shape the City’s development over the next twenty years. The Draft Land Use Plan is available on the Building Blocks page of this website. The Mayor’s Office of Strategic Planning has received significant input, both on Planning Day and since, from community members throughout the City. The Future Land Use Plan builds off the development framework established by Queen City in the 21st Century: Buffalo’s Comprehensive Plan and uses a placed-based approach for neighborhood development by emphasizing the form, function and character of places, rather than simply dividing the City into areas by land use category. The Plan will identify how development should take place throughout the City and will serve as a foundation for the Buffalo Green Code, the first comprehensive update of the City’s zoning ordinance in sixty years. The values and input from community members is critical for the Green Code initiative to be a successful planning process. Since the planning process began approximately one year ago, the project team has received thousands of comments from the community regarding their vision for the future development of Buffalo and its neighborhoods. On Planning Day, residents were able to attend an overview presentation of the Plan and view maps and materials at open house stations that focused on specific neighborhoods, as well as citywide development topics. Project team members were available at each station to describe plan details, engage in related dialogue and record comments from participants. The Mayor’s Office of Strategic Planning has received a significant number of comments regarding the Draft Land Use Plan since the Planning Day event. Please stay engaged in this very important initiative for our City’s future! Related Documents: |
